Consumer stocks were edging higher premarket Friday as the Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLP) was up 0.4% and the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLY) recently advanced by 0.1%.

Hershey HSY was up more than 1% after it reported higher Q1 adjusted earnings and revenue.
