A 165 period M.A. has worked well in AAPL             for the last 2 years.
Wouldn't that be considered curve-fitting?

Well there's a calculation for the perfect moving average which is : (Cycle lenght/2)+1

Cycle length - isn't that identified as no of days from peak to trough or peak to peak? In either case, those periods will vary. Can you provide an example of "cycle length"? Thanks.
