Time to declare the greatest MACD OF ALL! HELP ME CHOOSE! Education

Bitcoin FuturesCME GLOBEX

Description

OK. LETS TALK ABOUT THIS MACD INDICATOR.... WHICH ONE THOUGH? (moving average convergence and divergence indicator) is a popular indicator. Pretty obvious. It does many things. Plots a histogram that works well for divergences and show changing comparisons. offer crossing signals, and even has its own levels or structures to filter trades on it. It IS a lagging indicator... so it will never be perfect on its own. As I looked for one to adapt to a new strategy I am making... I found that many others MUST agree! Here are 12 different variations of MACD. For the most part, they all have massive views and likes on trading views. And for something as universal and loved as the MACD I have to say... there can be a lot of small and big variances in the signals, how it is used, what it is used for.

So Today I want to begin a discussion that I hope all of tradingview members will join me in. In declaring among these or another if you have one.... 5 titles! we will do it by vote and your basic explanation if you have a reason. and you can just pick one of the 5 titles. However, this Posts goal is to determine THESES TITLES

1. Which is the KING of all the MACD here? (please share your reasons and why you think so for any category)

2. Which is the BEST MACD for small time frames signals and entries for scalping (no greater than 1 hour)

3. Which is the BEST MACD for Swing Trading? 4hour -daily timeframes?

4. Which is the BEST MACD for finding DIVERGENCES?

5. Which MACD has the BEST HISTOGRAM

These indicators will be CROWNED (KING D) (SCALP D) (SWING D) (DIV D) (HISTO D) And for your time and participation in this quest. later on down the road when our winners are clear perhaps I can Update some of them to include self plotting divergences and maybe oscillation trendlines so that those winners are better than ever.

SO LETS GET RIGHT TO IT! Which MACD? WHY? FOR WHAT? TOSS YOUR HATS AND VOTES OR THOUGHTS INTO COMMENTS AND DISCOVERY SOME OF THESE COOL INDICATORS IF YOU HAVE YET TO. FEEL FREE TO HAVE OPEN DISCUSSION IN THE COMMENTS

An update I would like to give my personal idea to after testing personally. I would like to say that I believe the ZERO lag macd type (not anyone in particular) to be more effecient in terms of spotting divergence in a timely manner. but not exactly the best for entry because its cross signals do not always get fuly confirmed an/or play out to worth while movements

A special thank you to the Pine Coders mentioned here. And of course, all other coders out there. Thanks for shining a light on their fantastic work. We've featured this in Editors' Picks. We look forward to reading the comments and feedback.

Thank you a lot for this post and listing my MACD interpretation (MACD-X, More Than MACD by DGT)

I have attempted to present different calculation techniques applied to obtain MACD Line besides the traditional implementation of Gerald Appel, such as
  • MACD-Histogram, by Thomas Aspray also known as MACD-AS
  • MACD-Leader, by Giorgos E. Siligardos, PhD
  • MACD Source, my humble interpretation
  • MACD-TRIX, TRIX adaptation to MACD

Study allows usage of variety of different sources, including Volume related indicators and has few other add-ons such as John Carter's TTM Squeeze indicator and J. Welles Wilder’s RSI

The latest update is available with a simple backtesting ability with the aim to optimize the study

This is a great consolidation post for MACD ! However, I would suggest to go for a back testing for getting the applicable answer. Voting is not a way to say which one is the most effective.

@lertsak, This feels like an educational social post with a rhetorical question rather than a black and white ask. Voting gets people to throw their 2 cents in which is the focus. This page is the most fun I've had on here all day!
Gunslinger2005
@amplituhedr0n, it is true. it is more to illustrate and show the many different uses and types
Gunslinger2005
@lertsak, its just a way to get the conversation going and to spark people up to share ideas

For me, I like the traditional MACD. But, my advice is that no matter the one you choose, it will depend on the trader, you can build a strategy with any of them. Use it as a filter, not as a signal, in combination with price action (very important). If you choose one, give it time to understand and get familiar with it, don't change it as soon as a trade goes bad, stick to it. Create rules. Try to understand it and get familiarize with it, especially during different market conditions: in a range, or channel condition, or when trending.

Nice idea and great choices. I have made my own interpretation of the MACD. It is the traditional MACD enriched by a 6 period forecast and Divergences which can be shown either on the Histogram or on the MACD line.

@wugamlo, This one I really enjoyed.

I'm not a PRO, but IMHO both OBV MACD from @RafaelZioni and that one from @LazyBear are pretty nice. I'm testing them for few weeks and found them enough reliable for confirmation and entry/exit point. I usually do scalping.
Well done @Gunslinger2005, we all appreciate your efforts and sharings!
