Almost all traders are a big fan of Exponential moving average in some way or form. Some use a single EMA while others love to Play with double EMAs and the crosses they provide. Most use a predetermined Values like 9, 10, 20, 50, 200 and so on. Seems they have earned their credibility throughout experience and time, but are they the most profitable?
Short answer: NO!
We went and checked backwards - Which period number would have given the highest profit if was used? The answer is ever so slightly changing but I'm going to share it here and try and update the number on a weekly basis! So without further ado, here are best numbers on the BTCUSD 4H, both single EMA and Double EMA cross strategy:
Single EMA: 44 (Blue). It would have brought you a profit of 5883.5% since April 2015.
Double EMA: 7, 17 (Yellow & Red). It would have generated a profit of 6982.8% for the same period as above.
How much holding would have given? Just 1502% for same period!
And how much would a 50, 200 EMA cross strategy yield? Only 678%.
