So the ALTs don't afford as much hedge from big falls as they once did. Pretty much fell at the same rate as BTC.

when new money comes in people will get excited about btc and the alts wont be able to keep up, im watching for an entry at a lower price, then a break away from altcoins with impulse buying on btc as signs of new ath's incoming

yep, unfortunately not. I made most of my btc trading alts in such moments but it's not that easy anymore as they follow btc price now.
