BTC: Differing cycles, 2017 vs 2021 vs 2025—2018 vs 2022 vs 2026

This is the last article of this series. I want to show you the patterns of each Bitcoin cycle.

Are all the cycles identical?

Is Bitcoin new in each and every cycle?

Will the same pattern continue to repeat forever?

Let's answer these questions by going back to 2017. We will look at first the last three bull markets followed by the last two bear markets.

1) The 2017 bullish cycle was composed of one single move, an extended bullish wave—a parabola. (These are rough drawings): snapshot

A perfect transition can be seen from bear to bull, 2017 to 2018 (a blow-off top).

The bearish cycle produces first a diagonal line, then horizontal then vertical (straight down). As will be seen, this was a unique bear market.

2) The 2021 bullish cycle produced a different pattern, it had a two steps sequence. From a low point in 2018 developed the first jump, ending July 2019. This move was corrected to a low in March 2020 which started the final advance all the way to 2021. 2021 ended with a double-top. snapshot

Notice the difference between 2017 and 2021.

The ensuing bearish market, 2022, was also of a different size and shape. Here we see a curve and one single decline until the final low. There are no straight lines.

3) The 2025 bullish cycle is also different. Here we have a 3-steps process. The market grows, consolidate this growth and then moves higher. It is the first time that Bitcoin retraces from an all-time high to land back at a major support zone. See the chart: snapshot

The bear market that followed is also completely different in shape and size. It would be hard to predict this bear market based on past history since each cycle produces a different pattern.

During each bear market previously, Bitcoin would have to create a new support level as there was never any consolidation on the way up. It is different in 2026. The 2024 long-term consolidation zone worked as support on the way down. And here bearish action came to a halt.

Bitcoin produced five consecutive red months and the worst reading ever on many indicators. Everything points to the start now of a new bullish phase.

Conclusion

It is not that Bitcoin will perform differently in 2025-2026, Bitcoin always creates a new pattern. Market conditions are always changing.

We cannot expect the present to be the same as the past, this has never happened before.

Instead of looking at the past in order to predict the future, we have to focus on current price action, the potential of the current chart.

Bitcoin found support clearly, and this can result in bullish action, a test of resistance comes next.

Namaste.
