Coronavirus Curve Attempts to Flatten

COVID-19 CONFIRMED TOTALCOVID19

Description

Looking again at the total number of coronavirus cases, we can see that the graph continues to rise, both in numbers of cases and deaths. You may notice that this chart looks a little different than the last coronavirus analysis that I did. That's because I decided to switch the chart to a log view, since we are in a parabolic rise. The log view has fixed distances between percentages, as opposed to fixed distances between numbers. When numbers are rising so dramatically, it's good to use a logarithmic chart, so that the action isn't so dramatically distorted into a parabola.

We can see that there is a bit of a rounding effect being printed on both the number of cases and the number of deaths, which is partially why we're seeing a bounce in stocks and other assets. However, a similar rounding effect was seen during February. So, while it does appear that cases are slowing, we really can't be certain at this point.

Personally, I don't think these numbers are even remotely accurate, because I think there are most likely millions of cases that have gone unreported, simply due to the lack of testing, and the fact that many people who have been infected have probably hidden their infection, or otherwise chose not to disclose it. Think of how many people in the world "hate doctors." Think of how many people in the world don't want to mention their symptoms or get tested, because they don't want to lose work or miss out on getting paid. While those issues are certainly contributing factors, I think largest factor is most likely insufficient testing. However, these are the numbers we have. So, this is what we need to keep an eye on.

If you think these numbers are not even remotely accurate, what is the point of an analysis or worse yet any conclusions based on false underlying data? It seems the only thing you would know about the conclusion is that it's wrong.

The death numbers are also inaccurate as the CDC has told Doctor to indicate COVID-19 on the death certificate "where the disease caused or is
assumed to have caused or contributed to death." This means the death numbers are likely overstated.

@soybruce, the deaths are most likely still understated, just as total cases are understated. There are not enough tests so all you can do is presume. If it looks like a lion call it a lion. I work in healthcare, no one is excitedly exaggerating numbers. Before this, most death certificates have presumed causes, unless an autopsy is performed.

@soybruce, EXACTLY! Plus they give 13k for a covid write up and 39k if they go a vent that will likely kill them!

@soybruce, I'm in the medical field and a lot of the infected cases are under reported. Due to numerous reasons, the most important of which is subclinical symptoms. Very mild to not having any fever, coughs, etc. So they do not seek care and the infection resolves on its own. Also, the CDC is allowing the assumption of covid to be listed as cause of death. Unlike influenza, if you have covid19 or simply a respiratory infection but die of a stroke. You are listed as a covid19 death, inflating the numbers.

So essentially, the infection numbers are under represented and the deaths are over represented. Giving a more virulent and deadly perception than what is reality. Despite this, and I'm not suggesting covid19 is a minor issue. But, on bad years (2017/2018) simple influenza kills 60K Americans annually. Covid death projections have gone from 4 million to 2 million, 500k, 240k and now under 60k.

@RonSwansonsAu, your facts are actual ones - unlike the mass media who have politicized this along with the phoney hate filled political left wing. It's amazing that there are still people out there who get their news from CNN/MSNBC and actually believe the propaganda from people like Don Lemon and Fredo who are the journalistic equivalent of the door bell licker.

@soybruce, I agree that the numbers are overestated, since many deaths are reported as COVID-19 but were other related illnesses or had COVID-19 when died but cause of death was different. In cases of mass panademics people and experts go with the trend and exaggerate the numbers this has happened before in history, so I would take the stats with a pinch of salt and not buy into the whole phobia that much.

Of course that those numbers arent real, right now in Spain if you die at your home they didnt count you as COVID even if you had it.
