DXY: 4 phases in 2019, 1st phase of 2020

cozzamara Updated
TVC:DXY   U.S. Dollar Index
Hi Guys,

The above structure subdivide 2019 in four phases: A, B, C and D.
A and C move up. B and D move down.

At the start of 2020 the Index began a sharp move up showing a very strong US dollar and almost reached the psycologically important level at 100.

E represents a new phase commenced in 2020.
ABCD phases were all quite regular. E clearly shows a deviation.

Question time:
a) what may have been the cause of such deviation?
b) why is the US dollar strenghtening so much?
c) will DXY climb above 100, consolidate or drop?
d) what is the impact of forthcoming US Presidential elections?
e) what maybe the impact on world economies with a strong US dollar?

IMHO: The point of trading is to make money. To make money you must have money. Depending on the money at your disposal, you can decide what to do and how to do it. By having stops you decide how much you are willing to lose. By having targets you decide how much you want to earn. Be disciplined with your protocol and with your strategies for trading. Sometime you win, sometime you lose. Don't be greedy. Be realistic. Be wary but not afraid. Be curious. Use your brain. As long as your working process make sense and your spirit is calm, everything will be fine. Be patient and be prepared for any circumtances.

The answer to a):
The sentiment at 31 Dec 2019 was the following:
- Positive economic growth and a relatively higher interest rates compared to the rest of the world mean that the U.S. dollar still has enough juice to push higher through 2020;
- With the U.S. expected to lead the western world in economic activity, many analysts see further momentum in the dollar for 2020;
- A rough consensus estimate shows that economists expect the U.S. economy to grow around 2% next year. Meanwhile, the European economy is expected to grow by about 1% next year;
- the big target for the year will be 100. The last time the index traded at that level was late April 2017;
