I know trading a demo account is not the same like trading a real account. But beeing profitable FIRST on a demo account is key prior to open and trade a real account. One of the biggest mistakes i did was opening a real account too soon just to burn it some time after.
I already have and trade a real account, its not so big as 100k. Many of the ideas i post here i open on my real account, i joined tradingview one year ago to use it as my trading journal.
I see most of the members here are new, this post is an initiative to set a start point using this new feature and share my performace with the members.

See you!!

I had in mind going through the same journey with real money. Hope you'll achieve your goal.

Finally i have the same goal with real money also, but first i want to prove myself on demo account, it would be interesting and funny to show my results to the community (one million "dollars" or "account burned")

You cannot burn the acc if you always risk a fixed percentage of the capital.

Yes, burning an account happens more often than profitable trading. Thats why a trading a demo account is so important..... i prefer tradingview's demo account because we have many features like saving your charts and coming back to them in the future

Would be great to have our broker's feed here, and trade from tradingview's site, and not fugly MT4.

According to TradingView they will offer that feature soon, MT4 is an old software. This platform offers great features as saving charts, no installation, etc.
check:
"In the near future we may add connections to market brokers, so that you can take real action on the trading ideas that you get once you are ready."

I often hear people saying things like "I hope price goes in my favour" or "I hope you make it big in this trading thing.. remember your friends when you get there." (what other say to me). It's all well wishes etc.
Strange though that my so-called friends don't look much for me when I haven't made that first million, but they would wish to be looked for after I've made it. Innit?

Hey Full Time Trader, This is an awesome idea that you have here, hopefully everyone will learn something from your idea. But I would like to make a suggestion which is that, if you're going to put this much effort into this idea, than you should treat this demo account as a real account. And the only way you can really get that is by starting with the same account capital, as you would if you had opened a real live account. For example, if you want to open a real account for $10,000, then open a demo account also with $10,000 virtual capital. By doing this you will be able to get control over your emotions, if you have any while trading, and it will be a much easier transition for you going from demo to real account. I hope I didn't offend you in any way, that was NOT my intention. Wish you the VERY BEST on this journey of yours :)

I think you are doing something great here, however I have to disagree with you when you mention the "being profitable FIRST on demo is key". Being profitable on demo is not positively correlated with being profitable on live. If anything, a profitable demo account is extremely detrimental to your psyche and will create terrible expectations/habits. Opening a small live account is much more effective.

Best of luck!

since trading is 100% psychology, I fully agree with you. Trading demo = no psychology (fear and greed) at all = pointless

Best wishes to you FullTimeTrader.

Conservative amounts of leverage is as important as your buy/sell signals. That means with a 100k account, having all open positions of less than 10x your equity or 1 mil notional COMBINED. Even leverage of less than 5x equity amounts produces a greater percentage of profitable traders on average.

Knock it out the park Pal!

The topic about psychology in trading is highly controversial, this is not the purpose of this post. I agree with you, then i would say the process can be demo account--->small account---->real "big" account. But a demo account is needed at some stage.

indeed. dont you think maybe one should simply bypass demo completely and just use a small account? As long as there is money involved, regardless of how much, emotion will be present. Demo trading is a videogame, I don't believe it offers any advantage (aside from learning the software)

Anway, to each his/her own! I hope you can hit that $1mln soon :)

Hello Full Time Tradeer , I do really appreciate your initiative as it shows lot of motivation . demo account is always different , put some real money , start with thousand dollar 1000$ may using small lot size and double it
you can proportionate with money and lot size for your next step .
I think start with thousand is not big deal. if you are willing to start something real I am with you.
Hope for your success .
Cheers

Hello, personally i trade already a real account, but we all are not at the same level here. I agree with you, this initiative is just for those who want to use this new feature on TradingView. Some people may not need a demo account anymore.

What's not controversial these days? See the 'The list of enemies' at http://www.newtrader.club/2015/02/21/the-enemiesthe-fuller-list/ - psychology is terribly important. Whilst the purpose of the post is different, demo trading (aka 'paper trading') and accounts are about new traders discovering and modifiying their personal psychologies.

I'm more profitable on demo (or whatever they're called) accounts than on live accounts. I run both. That's given me a wake up call. I had to analyse why that's the case. So far my self-analysis brings out that:

1. I'm less 'emotionally involved' with demo trades.
2. I trade far less on demos.
3. I have gone for larger and more certain positions.
4. I've taken the demo money faster than on live account.
5. I don't worry much about losses on demos - so I'm taking the risk better.

The above pains me. But I believe in 'no pain, no gain'.

So for me - and this not meant to apply to anyone else - I need to transfer some of what I do on demos into live accounts. It must be something with my psychology in relation to real money.

It certainly can't be the demo account to blame. If the same trades on demos were made on live accounts, I'd be better off. It's taking time but I know I'll get there. I'll wrestle with my own inner 'enemies'. I have to win over them. I hereby resolve to win or control these forces.

i really like you´re idea. Why not add another advantage to it: open a very small account let´s say 100 € ($108.334) and start from there to where ever it takes us?

thanks for your suggestion but trading real money depends on each one, its up to everyone, if you feel your are prepared you can do it, we are not all at the same level here, best regards.

Yes i truly am you´re opinion, but to assume working with high leverage this seems to be a interesting challenge to learn from into all aspects of trading. Another one would be earning this money by collecting bottles.. just to get the fingers dirty enough.... and enjoy the benefits with much more pleasure......
