Hershey’s latest earnings were a turning point, not because the quarter was perfect, but because forward expectations moved up.
Management guided 2026 EPS meaningfully above prior consensus, confirming that 2025 is likely the margin trough and that pricing, productivity and cost actions are expected to drive a recovery next year. Importantly, the feared downside scenarios did not materialise: demand held up, margins didn’t deteriorate further than expected, and cocoa/tariff headwinds were framed as manageable rather than escalating.
That matters because the market was already positioned for “bad but stabilising”. This print validated the trough thesis and forced analysts to lift forward assumptions rather than cut them.
From a price action perspective, the reaction is just as important. HSY has now broken above the $200–$210 zone, a level that capped the stock for almost two years. This was a major supply area dating back to 2023, and the breakout suggests long-term sellers have been absorbed.
As long as price holds above this former resistance, the market is signalling acceptance of the recovery narrative rather than a fade. Any pullbacks into this zone now act as a belief test, not an automatic short.
Bottom line:
Earnings shifted the story from “how bad does it get?” to “how quickly does it recover?”, and price is confirming that shift.
