HYG tracks a market-weighted index of US high-yield corporate debt. In general terms, HYG is a perfectly adequate high-yield corporate bond index ETF, with a reasonably good yield. Adequate does not mean good, as the fund compares unfavorably to most of its peers in three key metrics: expense ratio, dividend yield, and total shareholder returns.
