What do we need the Euro for, or the pound for the dollar or the yen. People will always want an alternative. Putting all your eggs in one basket is foolish, right?

@aformby, The currencies you mention have not been created because people wanted an alternative, but because individual countries / regions created their own fiat currencies. The current trend however is to reduce number of currencies / focus on a few to ease crossborder trade.

@bmw_b, You think I don't know that different currencies don't exist because of borders. Don't be silly of course I understand that. What you don't understand is those borders also exist in the virtual world; they might not be geographical, but certainly differences of opinion are rife in this crypto world with how to move forward and coding ethics etc.. Borders will always exist!
