BTC is the carrying horse but now that it *might* have topped a lot of question marks will be put and search for alternatives. Some part will exit, other part will redistribute to search for alternatives that would improve over BTC.
Just because BTCUSD tops doesn't mean that crypto stands still, and people need to start realizing that.
There is huge momentum and need for decentralized cryptographic software that can redefine our privacy, wealth transfer and communication/data exchange.
It is very brave of you to predict this as old tech vs new tech. Though, it is mostly the panic-centric new small investors who seeks to gain easy 10x that investing in Total 2 for several weeks, not real investor that intents to invest in better blockchain technologies, non?

@Argaeus, It's not a prediction, it's a reflection of what already happened in 2017. There was a strong rally and demand for new technology while BTC marketcap slided down, the only reason that alts performed well is interest.
This could be due to being undervalued compared to BTC and/or people realizing there is more than just Bitcoin in general. I'm with you that more than 80-90% is trash, but there are some projects that seriously matured over the past few years.

@Helper_Ustad, That BTC might have started a correction but that a lot of that money will not only go to USD or USDT but also into more interesting projects that are fixing many issues about decentralization and high transaction costs! Bitcoin's monopoly is absurd considering there are many promising technologies out there which don't get as much recognition. Just know that not all of those altcoins are great, you really need to do some research first.
