On the supply side, forecast supply for this year is 141 million Ponds U3O8. Interfax reported that Kazakhstan's energy minister Kanat Bozumbayev had made several comments to the government in Astana regarding their uranium production. He noted that U3O8 production in the first 4 months of 2018 decreased by 3.2% year-on-year, with a production of approximately 18.6 million pounds U3O8. He said the production target for 2018 is about 60 million pounds. The resulting annual decline will result in a supply reduction of approximately 4 million lbs of U3O8, which many market participants do not consider.
Uranium Energy has 54 million pounds ( lbs ) of uranium oxide (U3O8) in reserves (measured & indicated) and another 45 million pounds of inferred resources. Special features of the company regarding the competition: The so-called in situ recovery technology ( ISR technology) is used. This uranium is promoted particularly cost-effective and environmentally friendly.
One focus of activities is Texas with the central processing plant in Hobson. The Palangana Mine already produces four years after the ISR process, which is also to be used in other uranium projects of the company. On the other hand, it could prove particularly lucrative that the company's deposits and projects are predominantly located in the USA. At present, only a small amount of domestic uranium supplies (<2%) are covered by domestic production. Dependence on imports is a problem that has increasingly attracted attention from US policy, with around 40% of demand currently coming from Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. How vulnerable the US uranium supply is, is demonstrated by a new Russian law of June 2018, which, with further sanctions Trump against Russia, Putin is authorized to implement corresponding export restrictions in response to US sanctions in the raw materials sector.
