Inventories news are used by the market makers to hunt shorts or longs. It is difficult to predit which way it will move so I try not to play the inventories although normally it produces a huge volatility.
Regarding your question about if the news are relevant, please check the US Inventories evolution since the year 2000 for example. You will see a huge, massive built! Current levels are all-time record highs! And, after checking this, your first question would be: why the heck oil price is not 10 USD per barrel yet?! Well, here is a book sample of why the fundamentals are good but to a certain point
