VIX - Enough complacency, time to buy volatility Long

VOLATILITY S&P 500TVC

Description

The VIX has been so low only 3 times in the last 15 years, this is the fourth period. That sounds like a nice bet to me! There isn't so much to say about the chart, when the VIX looks like it's bottoming there are only two choices : buy VIX or short stocks. Considering the amazing bull rally we are in right now, I do not want to short stocks, even if they are overbought, I prefer buying volatility. I managed to put on a position on the open, with a soft stop below (however I believe the VIX is a 'no stop' trade; you buy a reasonable amount, you never over leverage your account, you hold on to your hat, and you are bound to win money) what I believe will be a swing low for the time being. I have a target of 19 - 20.

I actually agree on it being in Lows. Do you generally make money on it with a high rate?

@2use, it is the first time I actually trade it because the cost has been lowered by my broker. I have been watching it for years, never traded it

@vlad.adrian, Oh, makes sense - i was surprised it wasnt up for the ideas before. One can also trade TVIX, interesting instrument in relation

@2use, I only have the VOLX cfd, or an ETF that has even higher comission, so I trade the VOLX. You can find a study between VIX and Dow Jones in my ideas section.
