Playing the ratio between two instruments allows you to be long in one and short in the other for instance. In regards to the metals ratio, the idea is that if the pattern is valid and confirmed by the rules, silver will lead gold, hence percentage and R/R wise silver will be more profitable. You can also play the spread by using puts/calls. Based on this info you can adjust your positions in the metals themselvers or/ and in the miner stocks. Usually, in this cycle and under the theory/idea that silver will outperform gold, money will start moving to the M&A field and possibly to the exploration area of the sector, where some targeted for acquisition junior exploration companies will outperform both royalty miners and major producers by entering their second stage in development.
