Over the weekend, US President Donald Trump warned that Washington would “wipe out” Iran’s power facilities—starting with the largest—if Tehran fails to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours. In response, Iran threatened retaliation, stating it would strike all energy assets linked to the US across the Middle East should its power infrastructure come under attack. In a statement released on Sunday, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards declared that the Strait of Hormuz would be fully shut down if such threats are carried out, adding that companies with US ownership stakes would be entirely destroyed.
At the same time, citing two informed sources, the Jerusalem Post reported early Monday that the United States is preparing for a potential ground operation aimed at taking control of Iran’s Kharg Island.
