Monero just finished a successful hard fork that kicked ASICs off the network and secured an uninterrupted future without DDOS or spam attacks.
background:
A) all (until recently) monero compatible ASICs are all from one company, bitmain, the shadiest bunch in the cryptosphere.
they put not just one, but 3 backdoors that we know of in their bitcoin mining equipment.
one had a straight up "brick this device" function that could not just shut down mining hardware, but break it permanently.
these people gaining 51% of the network would be catastrophic.
B) Monero's encryption is also symmetric, not asymmetric, meaning it is easy to use ASICs to mine fake blocks and spam the network as a hostile act of sabotage.
basically a way to DDOS the network. This is now impossible.

Monero has also shown tremendous strength and still is the one top crypto that had lost least since all time high.
Most crypto is just for pump and dump schemes which are mostly only profitable for those with foreknowledge. Monero is different.
Monero is the second or 3rd most actually **used** crypto. it's the only thing used when anonymity is wanted, it's the only way to make bitcoin, litecoin, ethereum ... fungible, i.e. interrupt a trace from address to address
