STMicroelectronics says Starlink chip shipments could double by 2027

Less than 1 min read

STMicroelectronics (STMPA, Financials) has delivered more than 5 billion radio-frequency antenna chips to SpaceX for use in the Starlink satellite network since around 2015.

A senior executive said volumes shipped over the next two years could match the total supplied over the past decade, underscoring the pace of expansion in commercial satellite deployments.

The chips are used in Starlink user terminals and are designed to support high data rates while operating in demanding space conditions. Similar technology is expected to be adopted by other low-Earth orbit satellite operators.

The relationship has become an important contributor to STMicro's specialized chip segment as private companies expand satellite constellations to provide broadband and data services.

Looking ahead, STMicro plans to supply inter-satellite laser links for future SpaceX platforms and is also working with European partners on next-generation satellite programs, which could provide additional growth momentum.
