Spain's economy minister wants EU to issue joint debt to boost euro as reserve currency

Spanish Economy Minister Carlos Cuerpo said on Monday the European Union should work on issuing joint debt in a bid to increase the level of euro-denominated assets and boost the euro as a world reserve currency.

Cuerpo, who seeks to succeed Irish Finance Minister Paschal Donahoe as Eurogroup president, added the EU could issue joint debt to finance defence spending or energy transition.
