Romania’s c-bank FX reserves grow to 50.2 bln euro in Jan

BUCHAREST (Romania), February 1 (SeeNews) - The foreign exchange reserves held by Romania's central bank, excluding gold, rose to 50.202 billion euro ($54.645 billion) at the end of January, from 46.636 billion euro a month earlier, the central bank said on Wednesday.

Foreign exchange inflows amounted to 4.754 billion euro representing changes in credit institutions’ foreign currency-denominated required reserves, inflows into the finance ministry's accounts and inflows into the European Commission (EC) accounts and other, the bank said in its monthly statement.

Foreign exchange outflows totaled 1.188 billion euro, representing changes in credit institutions’ foreign currency-denominated required reserves, interest payments and principal repayments on foreign currency public debt and other.

The gold reserves of the central bank remained steady at 103.6 tonnes. However, following the change in the international price of gold, its value amounted to 5.865 billion euro at the end of January, up from 5.669 billion at the end of 2022.

The international reserves of Romania, including foreign currencies and gold, stood at 56.067 billion euro as of the end of December, compared to 52.305 billion euro a month earlier.

In February, the payments due on the foreign currency-denominated public and publicly guaranteed debt will amount to approximately 648 million euro.
