Portugal jobless rate edges up to 6.1% in August

Portugal's unemployment rate edged up to 6.1% in August from a revised 6.0% in July, but was below the 6.3% registered a year ago, the National Statistics Institute (INE) said in its flash estimate on Wednesday.

The labour underutilisation rate was at 10.4%, up 0.3 percentage points from the previous month.

The youth unemployment rate encompassing 16- to 24-year-olds dropped to 18.9% in August from 19.5% in July and from 19.9% registered a year ago, the INE said.
