ECONOMY
U.S. President Donald Trump is due to unveil his tariff plan at an event in the White House at 4 p.m. Eastern Time (2000 GMT), amid concerns from businesses, consumers and investors about an intensifying global trade war.
(*) The impact of duties on the Italian economy will be "massive", the head of Italy's business lobby Confindustria, Emanuele Orsini, told La Stampa in an interview published on Wednesday. He warned that China would be the one benefiting of any further rising tensions over trade between Europe and the U.S and hoped that Italian companies would not offshore production outside of the country as a response to tariffs.

Italy's insurance regulator IVASS needs more details about internal control and governance systems as it reviews domestic leader Generali's proposed asset management tie-up with French bank BPCE, two sources close to the matter told Reuters.

The lender and the insurer filed a report on Monday to market watchdog Consob and insurance watchdog Ivass over the possibility that two of their top shareholders - Del Vecchio family’s investment company Delfin and entrepreneur Francesco Gaetano Caltagirone - are acting in concert to consolidate their control over Mediobanca, Generali, and Monte dei Paschi BMPS, several Italian newspapers reported on Wednesday.

BAMI
Italy's second-largest bank said on Wednesday that Italy's market watchdog Consob approved the share offer document for its 14 billion euro all-share offer for smaller rival Banco BPM, the last required step to launch the tender. The offer will run between April 28 and June 23.

Credit Agricole ACA said on Wednesday it had received authorization from the European Central Bank (ECB) to cross the 10% threshold in the Italian lender. It added that it now holds a 19.8% stake in Banco BPM, and does not intend to launch a public offer for the capital of Banco BPM.
STELLANTIS STLAM
Sales of new cars in Italy rose for the first time in eight months, rising in March by 6.2% compared to the previous year, but sales for Stellantis fell by 0.92%, transport ministry data showed on Tuesday.
Stellantis was one of 15 automakers, plus a trade group, which were fined a total of 458 million euros EU antitrust regulators on Tuesday for taking part in a vehicle recycling cartel. Stellantis, fined 99.5 million euros, said provisions for the charge had already been made in 2024 full-year results.
(*) The car group said that its sales in the first quarter of the year were down 12% year-on-year in the U.S. and fell 18% in Canada.

The Italian bad loan manager has reached 80% of its targeted increase in gross loan portfolio for the current year, and it may be able to surpass it, CEO Manuela Franchi told Reuters on Tuesday.
