The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk sea freight index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, fell about 1.2% to 1,952 points on Tuesday, after a 0.4% rise in the prior day, pressured by the larger vessel segments.
The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, dropped by 1.9% to 3,660 points; and the panamax index, which usually carries 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, fell 0.3% to 1,406 points.
Conversely, the smaller supramax index rose 6 points to a near two-week high of 945 points.
