Trump Considers Expanding Travel Ban to 36 More Countries

Less than 1 min read

U.S. President Donald Trump is considering expanding travel restrictions to citizens from 36 more countries, according to a State Department cable obtained by Reuters.

This follows an earlier executive proclamation barring entry from 12 nations and would represent one of the most extensive visa overhauls in recent U.S. history.

The internal cable, signed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, gives the targeted countries a 60-day window to comply with U.S. security and identity-verification standards.

Failure to meet these benchmarks could lead to full or partial entry bans.

Countries under review include Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Egypt, Nigeria, Tanzania, Cambodia, Tonga, Saint Lucia, and others, assessed on criteria such as passport security, deportation cooperation, and terrorism-related risks.
