Microsoft's $3.3B AI Center in Wisconsin
- Microsoft's $3.3 billion investment in AI
- 2,300 construction jobs generated by 2025
- Partnership with Gateway Technical College
Microsoft Corp has unveiled plans to invest $3.3 billion in the construction of a high-tech artificial intelligence data center in Wisconsin. The project, aimed at expanding Microsoft's national cloud and artificial intelligence infrastructure capacity, will be situated in Mount Pleasant. The announcement was made jointly by President Joe Biden and Microsoft President Brad Smith.
The construction of the data center is projected to generate 2,300 union construction jobs by 2025 and 2,000 permanent jobs over time. Microsoft has also pledged to collaborate with Gateway Technical College to train 1,000 individuals for data center and other roles by 2030. This initiative is a component of Microsoft's wider effort to upskill locals on generative AI.
The land for the data center was initially chosen for a large-scale project by Taiwanese electronics giant Foxconn, an Apple supplier. However, it will now be repurposed for Microsoft's new artificial intelligence data center. The investment in Wisconsin represents a significant step by Microsoft to boost its cloud and artificial intelligence infrastructure capacity in the US.
