Intelligent Moving Average - (Expo)

Intelligent Moving Average - (Expo)

This intelligent moving average is adapting to the current market characteristics and smooths out every fluctuation. The Intelligent Moving Average has low sensitivity to price series noises which gives outstanding clarity in trends. The graphs below visualize how the average in every point in time is adapting to the characteristics of the market.

Like all moving averages, the Intelligent Moving Average (Expo) can be used to visualize the trend. Price crossing indicates a directional change. Price can also bounce off the Moving Average, which can act as dynamic support and resistance . It is often used in combination with other signals and analysis techniques.

You can choose which type of Moving average the calculations should be based on. ( SMA , EMA , WMA , RMA). The length of the moving average can be changed as well.

1. Use the indicator to visualize trends.

2. Use the indicator to visualize dynamic support and resistance .

3. Use the indicator to understand when the market characteristic is different from the previous periods.

SMA - The SMA setting is doing something really valuable namely visualizing abnormal dynamic support/resistance and trends in real-time. If the price is above the upper - average – we have a strong positive trend and these areas do also serve as resistance points. If the price is below the lower- average – we have a strong negative trend and these areas do also serve as support points.
Generally, If the price is above the middle blue line average we have a positive trend, if the price is below the middle blue line average we have a negative trend.
The recommended length of the average is 75 or 200.

Be aware; Since the indicator is sensitive to market characteristics, the SMA averages can behave differently in some markets and in some timeframes than the description above. If it happens then adjust the length of the average.

EMA- The EMA setting is identifying areas where the market characteristic is different compared to the previously selected periods, this is visualized by that the averages become “twisted”.

WMA- The WMA setting is applying an extreme smoothing mechanism that gives clarity in trends.

RMA- The RMA setting is similar to the EMA setting, namely identifying areas where the market characteristic is different comparing to the previously selected periods, this is visualized by that the averages become “twisted”.
