The most important categories of the index are: Transport (20 percent); Food and beverages (19 percent of the total weight) ; housing (15 percent); health care (13 percent); and personal expenses (11 percent). Also, Communication accounts for 4 percent; education for 6 percent; clothing for 5 percent; household goods for 4 percent. Data is collected in the Metropolitan Areas of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Porto Alegre, Belém, Fortaleza, Recife, Salvador and Curitiba and in the cities of Goiânia and Brasília.
