IBMM is a part of the iBonds AMT-Free Muni Bond series, featuring bullet maturity exposure to bonds that mature in 2024. It follows a market value-weighted index of investment-grade bonds from federal, state, or local governments or agencies. Coupon payments received from underlying securities are exempted from both the federal income tax and the alternative minimum tax. The bullet maturity strategy means that the overall portfolio behaves much like a single bond, but still offers the diversification of a fund. As is characteristic of bullet strategies, the funds maturity, duration, and yield will slowly decline until December 2024, when the fund will unwind and return all capital to investors.
