Core logic

The Chande Momentum Oscillator evaluates momentum by summing positive and negative price changes over a user-defined lookback period and normalizing the result on a −100 to +100 scale.

Key principles:

* positive momentum is derived from upward price changes
* negative momentum is derived from downward price changes
* values above zero indicate bullish momentum
* values below zero indicate bearish momentum
* extreme readings highlight overbought and oversold conditions

Readings near the upper threshold suggest stretched bullish momentum, while readings near the lower threshold suggest stretched bearish momentum.

Visualization

The script plots:

* the CMO line in a separate indicator pane
* upper and lower threshold levels for momentum extremes
* a zero reference line for directional context
* a filled zone between thresholds to highlight the momentum range

This layout makes momentum shifts and extreme conditions easy to identify.

Use case

This indicator is intended for:

* identifying momentum strength and direction
* spotting overbought and oversold market conditions
* detecting momentum reversals
* confirming trend continuation or exhaustion
* supporting short-term and momentum-based trading strategies

It works well in both trending and ranging markets when combined with additional filters or AI-assisted chart analysis.
