GBLD offers pure-play exposure to the global green building industry by investing in companies of all capitalization sizes involved in the construction, redevelopment, and retrofitting of green-certified properties. The fund is the first of its kind to focus specifically on the efficiency of the entire sustainable building value chain which is one of the five MSCI environmental themes. Potential firms must derive at least 50% of their revenue from green building activities which revolves around conserving natural resources and creating a safe and healthy environment, and must be screened based on their commitment and contribution to the impact theme using an ESG rating and score data. Constituents are then weighted by market-cap and may remain in the fund as long as the revenue they derive does not fall under 40%. The index is reviewed quarterly
