A 15-member German military reconnaissance team departed Greenland after a 44-hour visit, according to Bild. The soldiers left from Nuuk on Sunday, earlier than expected.
Germany led a group of European countries, including France, Sweden, Norway, and the UK, in sending personnel to Greenland to demonstrate security commitments amid tensions with the United States.
The development comes as U.S. President Donald Trump announced new tariffs on several European nations, including Germany, prompting France to seek EU retaliation measures.
German Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil said Germany will not be blackmailed by U.S. President Donald Trump after his tariff threats linked to Greenland.
“We will not follow Trump’s path. We will not be blackmailed or provoked — by tariffs or words,” Klingbeil said, adding that Europe will respond.
His remarks come as France pushes for EU countermeasures to protect the bloc from political and economic pressure.
