The fund aims to manage risk and return potential in Canadian equity securities in a highly concentrated market through short exposures. The portfolio managers maintain long and short exposures through proprietary research based on fundamentals, buy/sell signals, and liquidity. Using quantitative techniques, the portfolio is allocated 120%-150% long equities and short positions of roughly 30-50%. The fund sets caps with borrowings of up to 50%, non-Canadian securities to 10%, and gross exposure set to 300%. The fund could invest in companies of any size, as well as invest in other asset classes directly or through ETFs and derivatives. In addition, the fund may engage in securities lending, repurchase and reverse repurchase transactions, as well as derivatives for both hedging and non-hedging purposes. As an actively managed fund, the portfolio managers have full discretion to make any investment decision at any time.
