AXP American Express posted an 11% year-over-year revenue increase in Q3 to $18.4 billion, beating estimates by $380 million. Earnings came in at $4.14 per share, topping expectations by $0.16. Growth was driven by stronger cardmember spending and an 18% rise in card fees.

The updated Platinum Card performed especially well, with new U.S. Platinum accounts doubling compared to before the refresh. CEO Steve Squeri said it was “the strongest start we’ve ever seen with a refresh.”
