Streamr to Permanently Shut Down Brubeck-Milestone Network on September 26

Streamr announced that the Brubeck-milestone network will be permanently deleted on September 26. Its trackers and storage nodes will be shut down, and all stored data will be erased. The network has been fully replaced by Streamr 1.0 since early 2024, and no significant usage remains.

Streamr’s primary objective is to create a decentralized infrastructure dedicated to real-time data, effectively replacing central message systems with a global peer-to-peer network. The Streamr Network operates as a decentralized system focused on collecting and disseminating real-time data streams from a plethora of sources including IoT sensors and various smart devices. This layer zero protocol amplifies the capabilities of decentralized Web3 projects. Organized around a topic-based publish-subscribe model, each distinct stream forms its own P2P overlay network, steered and sustained by BitTorrent-like trackers. Complementing this, the Data Union framework offers a unique avenue for data crowdsourcing and crowdselling, integrating seamlessly with Streamr, Ethereum, and xDai to fortify apps that reward users for sharing invaluable data.

Central to the Streamr ecosystem, the DATA token, which adheres to the ERC-20 standard, plays multiple roles.
