Today's Market: S&P 500 Hits Record Ahead Of Fed Decision After Miran Confirmation Vote

Less than 1 min read

Sep 16 - Stocks opened higher on Tuesday after the Senate confirmed Stephen Miran to the Federal Reserve Board, just one day before the central bank begins its policy meeting.

The S&P 500 gained 0.2%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.1%, and the Nasdaq Composite climbed 0.2%.

Lawmakers voted 4847 to approve Miran, who serves as President Donald Trump's top economic adviser. He will take the seat vacated by Adriana Kugler last month. The vote comes as investors await the Federal Open Market Committee's decision on interest rates, expected Wednesday.

Economic data also shaped sentiment. Retail sales in August came in stronger than consensus, while import and export prices showed unexpected gains.

On Monday, Wall Street notched record closes, with the S&P 500 touching 6,600. Tesla's stock moved higher after CEO Elon Musk purchased more than $1 billion worth of shares.

Markets now turn to the Fed meeting, with investors weighing the potential rate cut and monitoring trade developments with China.
