Google Plans $10 Billion India AI Campus
Google GOOG will pour $10 billion into a 1 GW data center and AI hub in Visakhapatnam, a move that marks its biggest commitment in India yet.
The plan spans three sites around the city, with operations slated to start in July 2028. A formal agreement with Andhra Pradesh is set for Tuesday. The state says the project will add advanced AI infrastructure, large scale energy resources, and an expanded fiber network, and could create about 188,000 direct and indirect jobs. Google is also expected to get tax certainty and access to separate, state subsidized power grids dedicated to data center use.
This fits Google's broader push to add capacity for AI products and cloud services in the U.S. and overseas. Local buildout can cut latency for users, support data residency needs, and improve cost visibility as workloads scale.
AI needs power, land, and talent, and this campus ties all three to a growing tech corridor on India's east coast.Investors will watch the signing details, power agreements, and construction milestones as the campus targets a July 2028 opening.
