OpenAI Rolls Out GPT-5-Codex Upgrade For Developers
Microsoft-backed OpenAI is giving developers a boost with a new version of its AI coding assistant, GPT-5-Codex. The upgrade, released Monday, promises sharper review skills and the flexibility to code from just about anywhere whether that's a terminal, a web browser, or even a smartphone.
GPT-5-Codex has been trained specifically for conducting code reviews and finding critical flaws, the Microsoft and SoftBank-backed (SFTBY) startup said. The system can now dig into codebases, reason through dependencies, and run tests to check whether everything works as expected.
The update also makes the tool more creative. OpenAI says Codex shows big improvements in building mobile websites and desktop apps that look good and work smoothly. In the cloud, it can even analyze screenshots, visually track its progress, and share back images of the work in real time.
Codex is included in multiple OpenAI subscription plans, from ChatGPT Plus to Pro, Business, Edu, and Enterprise, giving developers a new set of tools without an extra price tag.
