Less than 1 min read

PayPal PYPL is giving its users an early shot at Perplexity's new AI-powered Comet browser, part of its push to add more value inside its app. Starting Wednesday, PayPal and Venmo customers in the U.S. and select global markets can skip the waitlist and start using the AI search tool right away.

Perplexity, a startup backed by Nvidia NVDA, has been making waves with its answer-focused search engine, which aims to challenge OpenAI and Google in the AI search race. Through PayPal's new in-app subscription hub, users will also get a free 12-month trial of Perplexity Pro, a perk worth $200.

The subscription hub allows users to view, manage, and update recurring payments. As a sweetener, PayPal is offering U.S. customers $50 cashback if they link and pay for three subscriptions through the hub for a limited time.

Comet, Perplexity's browser, comes with an integrated AI assistant, smart product comparisons, and quick-answer search features. Shares of PayPal slipped 0.5% to $68.91 on Wednesday, even as the company highlighted the partnership as another step in blending payments and digital services.
