Baltic Dry Index Edges Up, Posts Weekly Gain

The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk sea freight index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, rose about 0.4% to 2,025 points on Friday, following a 1.4% decline in the previous session.

The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, advanced by 1.4% to 2,925 points; and the supramax index increased 0.3% to 1,465 points.

On the other hand, the panamax index, which usually carries 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, fell about 1.4% to 1,847 points.

For the week, the benchmark index rose 4.2%, the strongest gain since July 21.
