Leap year just got a whole new meaning — Microsoft sparked up quantum talks, saying businesses should get ready for a new era.

• Microsoft stock MSFT climbed 2.5% Wednesday after the software giant posted a surprise blog post, proclaiming 2025 would be the year of the quantum leap. In the publication, Microsoft urged businesses to be “quantum-ready” by taking the needed measures.
• “We are at the advent of the reliable quantum computing era. And we are right on the cusp of seeing quantum computers solve meaningful problems and capture new business value,” Microsoft said in the blog post. “As we look toward the next 12 months, the pace of quantum research and development is only going to accelerate.”

🌕 Quantum Stocks Shoot to the Moon

• What followed was an immediate reaction by investors who loaded up on quantum computing companies. A handful of small caps rallied, including Quantum Computing QUBT, up 55.5%, Rigetti Computing RGTI, up 22.2%, IonQ IONQ, up 33.5%, and D-Wave Quantum QBTS, up 22.4%.
• These stocks were already in motion since December due to other hype-worthy news. Microsoft’s announcement comes a few weeks after Google posted it had made big progress in the quantum field. So much so, the guys at Google think their discovery could be proof of the existence of multiverses.

• The quantum leap is a controversial topic among tech luminaries. Just last week, Nvidia NVDA boss Jensen Huang said that quantum computers won’t be a factor for at least 15 years. Microsoft, in that sense, may be running a bit ahead of events.
