Mauritania is a poor African country, where more than half of population rely on livestock and drought-prone subsistence agriculture. Mauritania’s economy depends on iron ore exports and foreign assistance. A rich coastal fauna, an expanding mining industry and recently found oil reserves led Mauritania’s recent economic expansion. However, presence of active terrorist groups in the region and unstable government are Mauritania’s major obstacles to growth.
