About Puerto Rico GDP YoY
Puerto Rico is an unincorporated territory of the United States. Once one of the poorest islands in the Caribbean, now it has the highest GDP per capita in the region. Puerto Ricans are considered citizens of the United States and the territory receives funds from the federal government. The most important sector of the economy is export-driven pharmaceutical industry, followed by tourism. However, the private sector lacks the dynamism. As a result, the government is in poor fiscal condition, unemployment rate is high and the labour force participation rate extremely low.
