GOOD TRADE - GREAT TRADE. Good Trades vs Great Trades In trading, not every setup is created equal — and understanding the difference between a good trade and a great trade is a hallmark of a professional trader. Good Trades A good trade is one that meets the basic criteria of your trading plan and aligns with your strategy — but may lack full confluence or clarity. The setup is still valid, but it may carry slightly less probability or conviction based on your overall playbook. Good trades are often taken when: Structure is respected, but not fully aligned across all timeframes. You see partial confirmation, but not complete alignment of your edge. Price is moving in your intended direction, but entry precision or timing could be improved. These trades can still be profitable — and more importantly, they’re good process trades when executed with discipline, proper risk management, and clear reasoning. However, because they carry slightly lower conviction, it’s wise to reduce risk exposure. A professional trader understands that not every trade deserves the same position size. Great Trades A great trade is one where your edge is fully present. Everything aligns — structure, confluence, timing, narrative, and sentiment. You can clearly articulate why this trade fits perfectly within your playbook. A great trade typically shows: Alignment across multiple timeframes. Clear liquidity or imbalance targets. Confirmation from price action and higher timeframe structure. Strong narrative support (fundamental or sentiment-based). This is when you have every reason to believe that the market is setting up in your favor. These are the setups you wait for, the ones that statistically and psychologically make the most sense to take with confidence — and sometimes, slightly more size (within risk rules). Knowing Your Edge and Applying Risk Appropriately Your edge is the consistent advantage your strategy provides over time. Understanding it allows you to categorise opportunities and apply dynamic risk management. When you recognize that a setup is a “good” trade — valid, but not fully aligned — you may still take it, but with reduced risk. You’re accepting that probability is lower, and you manage exposure accordingly. In contrast, when a “great” setup appears, you can confidently allocate your standard or slightly increased risk — knowing that the probabilities, confluences, and structure all align with your playbook. The Professional Mindset Professional traders don’t chase perfection — they execute consistently. They know that: Not every valid setup is a “must take.” Risk must always reflect conviction. GBPJPYGBP/JPY on the Daily timeframe has been in a clear uptrend since. Early October, the price created a bullish gap between 198.871 and 200.183, then continued pushing up toward 205. Last week, price came back to fill that Daily gap and immediately started moving upward again. Today, I entered a long position after a clean rejection of my 202 key level on H1. My target is the 205 zone, which is the previous high. Trend is bullish, gap filled, key level respected → simple and technical setup.

XAUUSDOn the Daily timeframe, Gold attempted to form a downtrend. However, last week price got trapped between 3875 and 4050 — a consolidation zone. Today, price broke this consolidation to the upside and is currently around 4110. For now, I’m waiting for a pullback and a clean H1 confirmation on one of my key zones before entering a long position. If the retest is respected, my target is the 4400 zone, which is the previous Daily high. No confirmation → no trade. Patience is part of the plan
