Legacy stocks: Keeping it in the family

53 symbolsUpdated
Remember Dynasty? Carrington Atlantic might be a fictional company, but there are plenty of family-owned companies that are still making fortunes for their multi-generational owners (though maybe with slightly smaller shoulder pads). From the big cheeses like Walmart to the mom-and-pops made good, there are more family-run businesses listed on the major stock exchanges than you might think. For example, did you know that Nike has been run by the same family since its launch in 1964? And it's not just Western firms keeping it together. Asia is particularly big on corporate family ties, and a whole new generation of kids are now growing the family tree into the 21st century. Hey, it's always nice to have a little history.
