Visa 2Q Revenue Climbs as Payments Volume Grows

Visa said revenue climbed in the second quarter amid an increase in payments volume and stable consumer spending levels.

The credit-card company on Tuesday posted a net profit of $4.66 billion, or $2.29 a share, in the three months ended March 31, with $4.26 billion, or $2.03 a share, for the same period a year earlier.

Stripping out one-time items, earnings per share came in at $2.51. Analysts surveyed by FactSet had forecast adjusted earnings per share of $2.44.

Revenue increased 9.9% to $8.78 billion, beating analysts' expectations of $8.62 billion according to FactSet.

Visa said payments volume rose 8% and its processed transactions climbed 11% in the period.
