Turkey - Factors To Watch on March 29

Here are news, reports and events that may affect Turkish financial markets on Friday.

The lira USDTRY traded at 32.3700 against the U.S. dollar at 0341 GMT, weakening from a close of 32.3395 on Thursday.

The main BIST 100 share index XU100 closed 3.1% higher at 9,079.97 points on Thursday.

GLOBAL MARKETS

A gauge of global share markets was barely changed on Thursday as it was poised to end the quarter with solid gains, while a strong dollar kept the yen near its weakest in decades amid the threat of intervention from Japanese authorities. Due to Easter holidays in several markets there was no GLOBAL MARKETS report on Friday.

ERDOGAN SCHEDULE

President Tayyip Erdogan will speak at rallies in the Istanbul districts of Sultanbeyli (1130 GMT) and Sancaktepe (1330 GMT) before speaking at a youth event in the Istanbul Congress Centre (1800 GMT) ahead of Sunday's nationwide local elections.

BANKING DATA

The banking watchdog BDDK will announce banking data for February (1100 GMT).

TRADE DATA (TRTRD=ECI)

The Turkish Statistical Institute will announce foreign trade data for February (0700 GMT).

INFLATION POLL

Turkey's annual inflation, which will be released on April 3, is expected to climb to near 70% in March, a monthly rise of 3.5%, on the back of food and services sector prices, with the annual rate seen falling to 43.75% by the end of 2024, a Reuters poll showed on Thursday.

TREASURY BORROWING

The Treasury will announce its domestic borrowing programme for the April-June period (1400 GMT).

CENBANK RESERVES

The Turkish central bank's net international reserves fell some $4.4 billion to $15.21 billion in the week to March 22 from $19.62 billion a week earlier, official data showed on Thursday.

VICE PRESIDENT

Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz will attend election events in the southeastern province of Siirt (1030 GMT).

MAIN OPPOSITION

Ozgur Ozel, head of the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), will attend election events in the western provinces of Manisa (1430 GMT) and Izmir.

AK PARTY

Ali Ihsan Yavuz, deputy chairman of Erdogan's ruling AK Party, will hold a news conference at party headquarters in Ankara (0800 GMT).
