Vale's net profit down 9% in the first quarter

Brazilian miner Vale VALE3 reported on Wednesday a $1.7 billion net profit for the first quarter, down 9% from the year earlier period.

Analysts polled by LSEG were expecting a $1.9 billion net profit.
