Hang Seng Surges Over 3% as China COVID Tension Eases

Equities in Hong Kong jumped 539 points or 3.1% to a more than one-week top of 17.857 on Tuesday morning deals, recovering from a 1.6% drop in the prior session, amid growing speculation that widespread protests in China due to strict anti-COVID measures may hasten a shift away from coronavirus zero policy.

Meantime, a large presence of police officers in Beijing Monday night prevented new protests, with Beijing reportedly sticking with its approach against the pandemic.
